- EDU 8000. READINGS AND RESEARCH IN EDUCATION. (6 credits) This course is designed as a special readings course. Students may enroll in single classes no more than once per academic session, and for no more than a maximum of 18 semester credit hours to be
applied to a degree program. The course prepares students for their Research Project or Dissertation. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be required to take a Comprehensive Examination over the reading materials they have completed.

- This course will explore current trends and practices used in the teaching of English as a second or a foreign language in primary, elementary and secondary settings. Students are expected to create a field research project which will be turned in at the conclusion of the course.

- This course examines various aspects of leadership as they related to educational principles and practices. Emphasis is placed on foundational theories and concepts which are necessary in order to understand education practices as well as educational administration. Critical examination of several topics including educational administration, educational policy making, and professional leadership will be covered. Students will learn some of the important principles connecting all parts of the educational continuum together for the purpose of organization and community enhancement. The course will assist students in understanding how theory can be used to make sense of educational practices in productive ways.

- Educational research and evaluation methods addressing special issues and topics not normally included in the regular statistics, research methods, evaluation, and measurement courses. Students will be required to evaluate several methods commonly used in educational and administrative settings.

- Students will work cooperatively with their assigned Mentor in the development of an independently researched Master’s Thesis. Guidelines for the Master’s Thesis will be provided by the Mentor at the beginning of the student’s third academic session. Students must complete their project and have it submitted to the Graduate School Examiners no later than one month prior to their expected graduation date.
